Shetland family 4 with 2023 Suzuki DF50 engine
Hi all, I'm in Southern Ireland. I'm thinking about selling my old Shetland Family 4 with a 2023 Suzuki DF50 engine, new cable steering system (both from Viking Marine) and new seat covers made by a small business in Ireland. In 2022 a new hood and new vinyl decals from James Reinman in Shetland. It ...

Why don't you move hosting to AWS and schedule backups for the block storage?. If this is an old php based site you might initially consider pure VM hosting although maybe you could actually make an AWS "elastic beanstalk" image to give resilience and move the MySql database into an AWS RDS ...

Re: Deck Questions
dconnx.. thanks for your reply also.. what a great idea!! and looks amazing too. how do the edges feel? The plywood floor is still doing a fine job and has weathered well as plywood seems to do. I was initially worried about it being slippy when wet and I bought some stuff to mix with epoxy or ...

Re: Deck Questions
I've since replaced those little hinges with bigger more robust hinges. We've been using our Family Four in the sea and the doors really tend to get bashed about a bit (as do we do) if there are bigger waves. (Having said that I can't say enough about how capable the family four is in the sea - I ...

Re: 80's family four - hydraulic steering - will it fit?
On further consideration - I think the Hydraulic steering systems use exactly the same outboard engine 90 degree arm for the tube-pipe-to-engine steering. So that means it'll be exactly the same amount of space required (just thinking of turning starboard which means the arm will be fully extende ...

Re: Deck Questions
I just got the idea to get 8x4 marine ply, cut it to fit and then use a router to cut lines like I imagined a teak deck to look like. Then I bought a box of sharpie black markers and gave them to my wife and gave her the great job of filling in the lines :D . After that I painted varnish on the ...

80's family four - hydraulic steering - will it fit?
Hi all, I replaced the cable steering system last summer with a new ultraflex cable steering system I bought from a local outboard mechanic (huge difference after I installed it compared to the old steering so that was great). I've had the boat in and out of the sea (it was in for 5 months in a ...

Geting a (bigger) Shetland ?
Hi all, I'm quite interested in a bigger (yet still affordable) Shetland boat. This is for sea sailing (with the ability to go quick enough - planing). We currently have an early Family Four. I see a "black prince" for sale which I think is like a Family 4 + 2 (with table, seats by table and head ...

Re: Which Shetland for coastal?
We have an old Shetland family four moored in a sea marina (Greystones, Co. Wicklow, Ireland). Really max four people aboard because of the limited outdoor space (but it's usually 2 of us so not really an issue). We have a new 50HP Suzuki outboard on it (DF50A) and it's doing a great job. As someone ...
