I did this on my Speedwell a couple of years ago, exactly as DACS says. I put wooden bungs in the hoses from the seacock after I'd disconnected the toilet, and left the other ends connected to the seacocks. I then made sure the bunged ends were left above water level. Perhaps a bit belt and braces.

I did the opposite - I took the original toilet out, drained and sealed the tank, sealed off the seacocks and put in a chemical toilet. You'll need to find space for the tank and room to run the inlet pipes and the pumpout pipe and fitting. Just be aware that there will be a fair amount of work ...

We have a Speedwell. We have a moveable step which those with shorter legs can put between the wheel and helm seat and which is then moved out of the way as required. I also moved the fixed helm seat back a bit to give a bit more space. Hope this helps.

There should be a serial number on a metal plate fixed to the left side of the helm. You can use this to date the boat as well. I think any spares you can get from Shetland Boats or second hand, specifically for a Speedwell, will be common to all Speedwells.

I bought a Speedwell early last year and I've spent a lot of time working on it. I got the canopy replaced by Amtrim. I'm in the Northwest. If you contact me off the Board I can tell you a lot more. However I don't know how you do that. Perhaps Admin could explain.

I use Craftinsure and have done for years - £90 to cover a 40 year old Shetland Speedwell.

It was definitely manufactured in 1972 and 1973 and possibly a year or two either side of that.
