I used to install 12v microwave ovens in boats we built (12meter motor yachts) and I remember they needed hefty wiring.
800w / 12 = 66 amps and more likely 70amps due to conversion inefficiencies. 70amps for 1 hour flattens a 90ah batterie.
Luckily a microwave does run for very long.

The band I was thinking of would be a strip of stainless steel, just to protect the hull from rubbing against gravel or rocks. I think you are right, just rub it down to a decent shape and then I would cover the repair with International's Gelshield or more cheaply a layer of gelcoat to waterproof ...

An easy to make and useful addition would be one or two bathing platforms as in this photo of a boat I used to build.

Boats like this are built up in the mold, ie gelcoat, several layers of stratification and then a thick plywood reinforcement is added inside the hull while in the mold.
