im currently looking at back up engines, what would you best size of engine still keeping weight down to a minimum? thanks

Is your main engine a pre mix or oil injection model?

I run a 50hp oil injected 2 stroke mariner so went with a 4hp four stroke aux mariner with the same fuel connectors so I can use my main fuel tanks with the aux engine. It got me home when my prop failed last month, more power would be nice but weight is always going to be a factor on boats our size.

the weight on all small boats is a problem so

spare battery, anchor and anything else heavy right to the front . add stingrays as well as this well help a lot

aux: with currents you want a 6hp ie the biggest of the single cylnder outboards. The suzuki is by far the best and if you uprage dont sell it with the boat!

small current/ no current honda 2.3 is the best at only 13KG

Oh and the new suzi can be put down on any side!

Hi. I put 3 bags of sand at the front of my Shetland 570 for ballast and it worked a treat.
Buy 10mm or 12mm nylon polyester rope for berthing. White or blue. Sold Shetland but
it is still berthed in Troon marina.

Boat looks great, iv just fitted a 60hp merc 2 stroke to my 500 looking to get a trial this weekend. Good to read this and know what to expect i terms of front lifting.

We have a 500 with evinrude 2 Stoke 70hp with hydrofoils with 2 people it planes easy and can do 30 knots when 3 to 4 people on you have to lead the front a bit hope this helps hydrofoil do make a big diffidence
