SHETLAND OWNERS ASSOCIATION

Hi, I'm thinking of buying my first boat. I have quite a lot of coastal experience sailing as crew but want to own my own cruiser. I have been thinking of a 570 but would welcome any suggestions from those more experienced. I am based west coast of Scotland and intend to cruise within the firth of Clyde. I want to use the boat as a weekender for 2 adults, the odd day out with the grandchildren and some days out fishing with a couple of friends. I have a good budget and ask if it is worth going slightly larger? I will probably keep the boat moored during the season and trailer it home for the winter. I do not want to trailer all over the place just explore the wonderful coast on my doorstep.

As a 570 owner for the last 6 years I am slightly biased.

We too are coastal based, The Solent. She is everything we need. Big enough for 2 adults - hubby is 6ft 2 and we have slept on ours for a straight 12 days with no problems. Hardy enough for coastal tides and weather and towable should you want to. We tow between coast and inland waters during the summer with a normal 4x4

We have a 75 2smoke engine which pushes along at great speeds depending on tide and wind and is happy to potter around on canals and rivers.

Welcome to the forum, we are also based on the Firth Of Clyde and have a Black Hawk with a 75HP Mariner. With the engine it must be close to a 1000kg being lugged behind the car which we feel is enough if you want to launch away from base and need to navigate some country roads. A 570 is slightly lighter than a Black Hawk though but both have enough space for two.
