Can anyone advise me on how to fit a kill cord to my quicksilver control box. There is a socket on a short cable coming from the control box and has four pins in it, plus a brown lead which are both just dangling, I don't know what they are for. Any help much apreciated. Need to get this done asap...We all know about the boating accident recently which has given the fitting of this some urgency. Thanks in anticipation guys.

Could you post a photo of the control box ?

The socket and brown cable are for the feeds to various instruments in the main dashboard such as tacho and temperature and the like if you have them fitted. If they are just dangling loose, it suggests that you don't have any of these fitted.

The kill switch on many Quicksilver remote controls should be an up/down toggle switch right underneath the ignition/starter key at the rear of the unit. Usually the normal ("go") position of this switch is in the up position, which holds a little plastic fitting with a bright red cord curled like a spring attached to it. You attach the other end of the red cord to yourself somehow - there is usually a plastic spring clip for this. When you move too far from the console, the cord pulls the plastic fitting out, and down goes the toggle switch ("stop" position) which kills the engine. I don't know if yours is like this, but if not, it should be something similar. If you don't have the red cord and plastic fitting, you might have to buy one or improvise something.

Splashmountaian you have got it bang on with the control box. I was wondering why there was a switch that was nearly impossible to switch off. I will look more closely at this and see if I can get the cord to fit it. Once again thanks for your help guys.

we had to fiddle with our last one on the 535 but found a flat headed screw driver was of use, which I kept close by in case the thing was ever pulled down in error to quickly push the switch back on! hope this helps, Dee
