Identifying age and type of shetland boat

Hi,
Is any Way i can identify the model and age of my boat, all i can find is a number molded into the transom "SB 2040". Looks very similar to a 760 but not quite.

Best idea is topost a picture of the boat so we can get the corret model type.
There should be a production plate by the cabin door, is this is missing we would need the hull identification number (HIN) which is about 12 digits long and is normally found on the transom somewhere.
The first letters are the manufactuer ie SB for shetland boats, the next 5 are the production or serial number, next 2 are the month of production and the last 2 are the year of production. Look for something like SB 12345 12 85.

Ok leave it with me. This may be a model/mould that Shetland sold. I will delve into the archives.

sorry to jump in on your post (cannot find how to start a new post) but i have a shetland 570 which has an oval disc on the hull next to the steering wheel, the number on it is 290? Anyone tell me how i age it from that?

John. I have done a bit of research. A shetland 760 is a rare boat as only a few were made. This is according to Shetland Boats.
From what I can find out a company called Val Wyatt Marine ( Berkshire) supplied them, so I am not sure if the original mold was sold to them. I have spoken to the MD at Val Wyatt who has a brochure for a 760 which he is kindly going to copy and send to me.
If we can get more of the HIN we could identify further.

family four no 9170
tried to access specs but was denied can someone kindly tell me age and mark of family four please . A great sea boat been 32 miles out from Portsmouth with my Tohatsu 90

Hi,
Having a look good round the transom found nothing, Also looking at 760's on the web the galley and dining area are opposite to what i have and the galley and dining area are molded grp not wooden construction like the ones i seen. So possibly looking at a bit of rare one, possibly someone else did by the molds then???

Hi, My son in law has bought a Shetland 535 told is called a "SUNTRIP" and that it was built in 1990 I'm not so sure and need to find the date built, the only plate I can find on the boat has the number 2963 this does not seem to be a Shetland plate... can anyone help..many thanks
