SHETLAND OWNERS ASSOCIATION

Just bought a shetland 2+2 removed the engine can you help me don't know if I need a pod to attach the outboard bracket if I do need one why ? What purpose does it serve .I'm a 65 year old lady that want to spend a couple of years getting to know how to handle my boat on the waterways with a 20 hp engine before I try the sea as I've never had a boat before need all the advice you can offer ,also with the engine gone building a fair sized double cabin under the deck has anyone got any pictures of a under deck cabin as I don't have a clue

With all due respect, from what you have suggested in needing more accommodation, I would have thought you need a larger craft.

Regarding boat handling I would suggest you invest in the RYA Powerboat Level 2 training course. This may be biased to saltwater boating but it does give you boat handling skills, basic navigation and Man Overboard recovery plus other useful information.

Not sure what you are referring too regarding an outboard bracket/pod, if this is for an auxiliary motor then for inland waterway I would not thought one would be needed unless you intend going on large lakes or Lochs.

Could you post some pictures to show what you mean by engine gone (was it a outboard or an inboard) and also what you mean by 'under deck cabin'? When we understand what you are doing we will be able to give better advice.

I would go on a power boat 2 course. This is v v good fun and will learn lots and not just about boat handling and well worth every penny.
