Torquay/ Dartmouth

Has anyone moored in either of these places or have experienced of staying in the local marinas. We fancy towing our 4+2 down for a extended stay next summer. The Hamble in the height of summer is a nightmare

I have no personal experience Sue, but my cousin used to have his boat moored in the area every summer for many years. He had friends and family in Torquay yet he preferred being based at Dartmouth as it was much quieter and a lot cheaper.

I take my 535 down there every year. Although I keep it on a trailer, so I don't have any experience of the marinas or mooring, other than using the slipway at Brixham for launching. Thinking of mooring the boat in Brixham marina for two weeks while I'm down next year actually.
Not sure if you've been before, but it's a fantastic place for boating. Lovely views, and around Torbay there's lots of sheltered places to drop anchor for an afternoon.

We're based in the Exe Estuary just around the coast so can thoroughly recommend this part of the country! The answer to your question really depends on whether you want to spend time at sea or in the river. Torquay is set in a lovely bay but can be a bit lumpy in southerly winds. Dartmouth is much more sheltered as it's a fairly narrow river so could be a better bet if the weather isn't too great (which occasionally happens during a UK summer!). It's a lovely river to explore with lots of places to visit and if you want to get out to sea access is easy and not restricted by tides. I have a friend who uses Noss Marina on the Dart and he says it's a very friendly place. Not sure what the charges are but a phone call would soon answer that. Torquay's marina facilities are more comprehensive than Dartmouth. Torbay is also good to explore with Brixham on the opposite end of the bay to Torquay.
(I just did a check on their websites and I see that Noss has been put into administration though they are still trading while a buyer is sought - that might affect your decision!)
