What size Calor Gas bottle fist a 4+2 gas locker

My Shetland 4+2 came with a 4.5kg calor gas bottle, but I was wondering if a larger bottle such as the 7kg or 15kg gas bottles would fit in the gas locker. I was looking to pick up a spare bottle as 4.5kg doesn't seem big enough to run cooker, heating and water, for a few days but that got me wondering if a bigger bottle would fit. Can anyone advise?

On my 4+2 we have 2 7kg bottles one that is connected which is upright,and a spare which sits upside down next to the one in use ! Hope that helps.

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for. I will pick up a 7kg bottle to go with the 4.5kg one that I currently have.

Have you actually tried using the 4.5 Kg gas cylinders that you have? We have cruised extensively with two 4.5 Kg cylinders and never found it a problem.

I only have one 4.5kg bottle and so want to get a spare bottle to go with it. I haven't used it yet as I only got the boat in October so it has been winterised since then

Welcome! We got our 4+2 last year as well. Managed two outings before winterising. I keep ours on a trailer by the side of the house. I have 2 x 7kg bottles both upright - one is connected so easy to know which is the spare. We have no heating, where is yours and is there any indication how much gas it uses? Keep us posted on how you get on, is this your first boat or an upgrade? We had a 16ft Mayland but wanted one we could sleep comfortably on. I really like the 4+2, the extra width makes such a difference.

Nothing to do with the 4+2 but in my motorhome I have 2x 7kgs bottles.
Last year we did 9 weeks away and 15 weekends. I used 2 7kgs bottles and that's a family of 4 running heating fridge etc.
Just thought I would add that as an idea of possible consumption.

Hi,
The heater is a 2kw unit, the average consumption is stated as 148 g/h
The water heater is a 1.25kw unit, the average consumption is stated as 91 g/h
This is my second boat, the first was an old Mayland 20, I decided I wanted something with standing room in the cabin, more space in the cockpit and better facilities for nights on board but with a low airdraft that would clear the lowest bridge on Bristol harbour to avoid waiting for bridge swings. The Shetland 4+2 seems to fit the bill perfectly.
