Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a Visor/ Windshield for my shetland 535 (It didnt come with one), I've found what looks to be the right window on ebay called "Replacement Top boat window" and i've come close to ordering it but a couple of things threw me off.

1. the picture of the window looks as its the correct shape but the sheet is flat and the fitting on the shetland is curved, Has anyone replaced this before, is this easily plastic easily pliable to bend in place.

2. It doesnt come with any fittings, or it doesnt say so in the description, does anyone know the best way to attach to the boat, i'm guessing its bolted in place?

I've replaced mine a couple of times and the flat type isn't a problem to fit. You'll need nuts and bolts and mudflap washers. Cut flat rubber to fit under the washer to spread the load on the Perspex. Choose the warmest day you can to fit the screen and bolt up from the centre outwards. If you need to warm it to help it curve, use a hairdryer not a heat gun, don't ask.........

Have you tried @customboatscreens on fb. They do a moulded screen if you don't want the flat type.

I've just made a new windscreen for a 535 using 3mm polycarbonate.
Dead easy if you have a pattern, which fortunately I did have as the old screen was present but badly cracked.
Cost around £60 for the polycarbonate from Ebay.

Although the polycarbonate is slightly softer than perspex and therefore more susceptible to scratching it's also much more flexible and less liable to crack or break when you drill holes in it or cut it. As there are numerous holes to be drilled in a 535 screen this is a big factor.

Well done - good choice, though 3mm seems quite thin?
Polycarbonate is very strong and will resist cracking but scratches easily so clean it carefully and do not use any abrasive cleaners or pads. I wash mine with plenty of water and use microfibre cloths to wipe it. Acrylic is less prone to scratching but not as flexible so can crack under impact, or just from tightening the screws. If you join the group (just £5) you can post and see pictures as well as get more info.

The pattern that came with the boat was 3mm so I stuck with the same thickness, I think this was the size used on the originals. I did contemplate using 4mm but tried the radius with an old bit of 4mm polycarbonate that was lying around and it was very difficult to bend to the correct radius. I've used polycarbonate in the past on vintage car hood windows and never really had much of a scratching problem so should be OK. Looks as if I may have to save my pocket money up and cough up my fiver.
