I have just bought a Shetland 27, trouble is that the Bow Thruster and Echo sounder does not work. They worked on the sea trial but now when we took possession. The Bow Thruster lights up when both buttons are pressed but there is no clicking or any sound when an arrow is pressed. The fuse looks ok but I will put a meter on it next time I am there. The Clipper echo sounder just says OUT. I want to check the sender and see whether it is through hull and check the oil if it is needed.
Very disappointed with Shetland as I have phoned them and sent two email asking for details of the boat but so far have been ignored.
The Manual which it says the wiring diagram is on page 21 which just has the page number on it.

As far as I can remember, the echo sounder transducer is fitted on the starboard side, very close to the transom and is internal. It is not the most logical place as by the time it detects shallows the bow may already be aground!

The bow thruster may not work if the battery voltage is low. This may also affect the echo sounder.

With regard to the lack of communication with Shetland Boats, I am not sure that they are still trading. The company is listed as a dormant company at Companys House.

Which bow thruster do you have? Mine is fitted with a 'Side Power'. If you're still having issues, you can find a good trouble shooting guide online by putting 'Side Power Bow Thruster Problems' and you will get the link with a number of pages of info to follow step by step. Also, their technical support guys are very helpful, worth giving them a ring.

Regarding your NASA Clipper, mine sometimes flashes OUT but only momentarily. Again, if you've still got issues, NASA technical support is good to ring for help. Do you have the owners/installation booklet? Mine is the dual depth and speed log, if you want a copy, PM me and I'll print a copy and send it you. As Dacs said, the transducer is fitted on the starboard side and roughly under the navigators seat, a real *astard to get to and service/check, just as the warm air heater and Propex boiler is.

Finally, I don't know if Shetland is still trading, but they certainly look like they've dropped the 27 and 29 range. I tried to buy a door to fit into the unit in the heads/bathroom. I spoke to James on a number of occasions, each time he promised to get one to me. My last conversation was with him last year when he said his staff were very busy but would ask them if they could make one for me from the mould. I'm still waiting and not chasing him, customer service is next to zero I'm afraid.

Thanks for your replies and have managed to bring it back from Walton on Thames to Kent Stopping at St Katherines and Chatham without the bow thruster and echo sounder working.
It has three batteries and a battery charger, not sure wether it charges all three or just two, as I don't have any information on it.
The Honda is charging ok after I replaced Battery number 3 that was on the far left looking towards the stern. If the engine charges all three then the new battery should have plenty of power.
The Bow Thruster is a Side PowerSE30/125S

Our Shetland 27, This boat has a black water tank and has to be pumped out. Where we are this is not easily available so we wondered if it is possible to empty the tank manually and or convert it to a discharge type.
