Just purchased a 4+2 inboard diesel previous owner used it on french canals so regulator an bottle need changing any ideas what size bottle butane and make fits the storage compartment and which regulator is needed for marine safety

A very fine and popular boat! I hope she serves you well. I would take mine to France but for Brexit (3 months isn't enough)!

From memory the internal gas locker height is 435mm. The max bottle size this holds is 4.5kg butane. Calor Gas bottles are fine but be carefull with Flogas, their 4.5kg butane comes in 2 different sizes, the larger might not fit. Neither bottles are available for new purchase, only exchanges but you can find empties on eBay. Flogas butane is usually cheaper.

For regulator and connector details; these are available online, you might also need new date marked tubing. I won't provide details here in case I encourage DIY gas work!

My 2 year old 4+2 will take up to 2 X 6Kg calor gas bottles (just) but I use the 3.9kg ones (propane) one of which easily lasts a 2 week holiday.

Shetland must have increased the locker size. I'm on my boat now; locker height on my 1987 4+2 is 390mm (not 435 as I stated earlier). The Calor 6kg propane bottle spec states: "Height 495mm".
