SHETLAND OWNERS ASSOCIATION

Hi,

I have rashly purchased myself a Shetland 535. It is functional but I would like to make it pretty. At the moment the list of jobs are:
New windscreen
New front and side windows
New front vent
Rewire
Internal ceiling replaced
Top hatch replaced/fixed
+ the million little adjustements and hinges that make the Shetland a floating caravan.

Ideally I would appreciate an experienced owner/refurbishers advice, for which I can supply endless coffee/beer and whisky. I live in Dalgety Bay. Any help would be very warmy received.

re your post. most of us are up north or west of you but I am happy to come across and help where I can. re jobs

windscreen flee bay
windows various and a pain of a job
Vent: go for the sollar powered ones at around £35.00
rewire: fleebay for panal and wire and have a plan as to what you need first!
Ceiling: lots of options, better chatting

I can get you deals on other bits like peds, engines, tanks, rope trailer locks etc tell me what you need and I will sort those things out for you.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been gathering lots of advice from my friends (fellow Shed Heads) and so far I have managed to fix my steering by finding the US manufacturer of the parts and locating the UK distributor. So now the steering is smooth and rigid (and cheaply repaired)

I love the idea of the solar vents, it was not something I would have thought of and they make a lot of sense, so I will fit one to the boat instead of the horrid mushroom twistie plastic one.

I've found side windows on EBay and a guy that sells a windscreen replacement. I have one question though - the existing windscreen has an aluminium trim that holds the poppers for the deck canopy (the one you can stand under), the replacement is one large sheet of perspex/plastic that goes further down the sides of the boat. Has anyone fitted one and put pull-the-dot poppers into it so the canopy still works? I think it is 3mm thick which sounds like a recipie for tear-out inless there is a clever solution out there.
