Considering buying a 27 or possibly a 29. Any advice or tip to look out for ? Seen a few for sale and some have what looks like water damaged on the lower sections by the heads door. Currently in a Freeman which are very solid and robust boats. Will I be disappointed with more modern day grp boats.

I believe that's all it is.

All I will say is get a boat big enough for your needs. Looking at a 535 I think it would be a squeeze with two adults and two kids to sleep on. I would say extend the budget and look at a 4+2 or similar size. If you buy too small you will very shortly want to upgrade.

How did you get a licence as you need proof of a Boat safety certificate and insurance to get one, well you do where I am. Look online for testers near you, cost around £150-200. Have you changed the boat ownership with the river authority as it may have a current test certificate.

Don't know where you are taking the boat but on any inland waterways you will usually need a licence even for a day and boat must have a boat safety certificate which would be a clause in the insurance. Gone are the days you just buy a boat and plonk it in the river.
