Well, the 2nd half of this summer has been a total loss as far as Meggy goes. I've been moving house and buying a property abroad and poor Meggy has had to be put on hold.

That looks like a good solution. I might do that with little E which is easy to manhandle. Big E is currently hanging on an engine crane. I will probably put the bigger engine (40hp) on the back of the boat then get it professionally recommissioned at a local marina.

Little E needed a head repair (stripped spark plug hole) and a repair to the broken gear lever. I've now fitted a new thermostat and a brand new cylinder head (which was a bargain - new old stock at £15. The gasket cost more!) and a new pair of NGK spark plugs. Don't know if this helps but my early 535 (no 666!) has "Escomar Boats" on the serial plate, rather than "Shetland". It has the simpler radius curved shape at the rear of the cabin windows.

That looks almost exactly the same as mine. I used 18mm ply, four panels to make it manageable. They sit on wooden packers and are screwed through to the cross members.

I also removed the air intake cover and painted it in satin black, then finished the job off with some chrome and red letters, bought from ebay for 69p each.

I'm quite pleased with the finished job. Now I just have to make the rest of the motor live up to it ...
