Apparently there will be a satellite site for spares and brokerage for us lesser mortals.

I see that the Shetland 29i is no longer mentioned. Has it been discontinued? Also, the Shetland 29i engine options only go up to 75 hp and they used to go above 100 hp.

I've never seen a 29; maybe they didn't sell that many..

Plenty of 27s about and there must be a 4+2 in every Marina in the country so I suppose they're concentrating on the established market...what sells sells.

As their website states they're moving away from the high volume but is it toward a high ender? £70k is a lot of money for anything but a Shetland? I suppose part of the problem is shedding the past image of an everymans boat and marketing Shetland as a brand.

Having said that; there must be a demand and these expensive new boats filter down through the market in time to the aspiring but less well off enthusiasts so they become affordable eventually

This is going to seem odd coming from the ADMIN of this site but the competition such as Viking are far better builds, more modern styling and competitively priced.

Shetland are like BMW you buy a basic kit and every else is an optional extra such as Heating, holding tanks etc

£70k would buy a very decent motor boat on the secondhand market. Such as a Broom

Shetland Owners Association has no connection with Shetland Boats Ltd. I used to belong to the Shetland Boats club 40 yrs ago when it was a decent club but then it became sales oriented and went down hill when the original manufacturer sold out. You will get more help here than Shetland themselves will ever give .

Not so sure about that.
When we went looking to upgrade from our 2010 Viking 20 we decided overall that the Shetland 27i that we bought was a better package than the equivalent Viking ......and we preferred the styling of the Shetland

Having said all that........we both would love one day to own a Haines or a Broom

Each to their own I suppose; be a boring world if we all liked the same thing...and beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder..

I do agree with Sue' s comments about the "extras" list...ticking every box adds over £16k to the bill..that's £86,000 for a 24' Shetland...the equivalent Vikings start at £35k..

I'll be interested to see what the satellite site is like...if it ever arrives..product support for the older models is hardly spectacular and the prices can be eye watering...although I can't complain about my own dealings, others have found it hard work..

I suppose time and sales figures will tell...

The biggest problem with shetland apart from the new boats is the owner. I think he simply likes to make things hard for you and I know so many people who have walked away due to him and not the boat. when the gods were giving out charisma is we clearly not in the que !! God help us if he a at the boat show
OH and best marketing move ever. Have something that works and that people want and that has a brand. Don’t sort out your factory and make loads ….. stop and make 1 off boats that are nothing like your brand!!
So many people and agencies is business gateway could have helped him make money selling the boat we want but hay ho he goes after the 70K range ish of boats that are for better than anything he will ever make!!
