Boat trailer

Hi All
I'm looking for advice on trailer purchase for a speedwell I live in Ross on Wye and intend on taking the boat up to the Scottish Highland to pike fish so i'm guessing i'm looking at a four wheel braked trailer with 13 inch wheels and a load capacity of around two ton ? Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Bruce,
I am no expert but what you are suggesting sounds fair to me.
I believe a Speedwell weighs about 800kg. So with a good sized outboard it should be no more than a tonne. Add to this enough to cover the rest of your kit and fuel etc. maybe 1300kg all up. So assuming I have got my figures right I would consider a trailer with a capacity of 1500kg minimum.
I personally like twin axle trailers particularly when towing greater distances but they are a pain if you want to manoeuvre un-hitched.

Hi,

A word to the wise, but don't forget the weight of the trailer itself needs to be deducted from the capacity, before you add up the boat, engine and extras.
