I bought a new outboard

My Shetland 535 came with a 2 stroke 50hp evinrude. A couple of weekends ago lost forward thrust. I had to limp 5km home at tickover in reverse. Took 2 hours. Tried to remove the leg and all 4 bolts sheared off.
Maybe a 40 year old two stroke is just a bit too old.
I bit the bullet a bought a Tohatsu 50 EFI 4 stroke from Cambridge outboards. I live in Catalunya on the Mediterranean but the same engine here costs over 2 grand more????
So I drove 2180 miles round trip to pick it up in 60hours and fitted it toda
I was advised to keep below 3000rpm for the first couple of hours but when I reached 1500rpm I was going faster than the old evinrude did flat out.
WOW what a difference. I’ve now got electric start and tilt and lift. The Tohatsu is about 10 kilos heavier but it’s not noticeable. I’m 10 kilos heavier than 40 years ago
This is so worth doing. I reckon in 5-6 years it’ll almost pay for itself in petrol and 2stroke oil.

Yes, it's a good decision.. The best to know that now you can trust your boat and with new engine it will be trustworthy. What's your top speed? and average fuel cons. with such motor?
Currently i have my Shetland 535 with old Mercury 75hp 1986, now i have drove only one time, but not the best feelings... Very noisy, much smokes then starting, looks like not very reliable. Also it's takes some time first time starting after few weeks... i have serviced it before 2 weeks, today tried to start it and only 10 th attempt was successful. Also other owners similar old 2-strokes engines saying that my estimate fuel consumption may be 30-40 liters/ per hour , so really if it will drinks so much fuel i'll change it immediately.

Doing a very similar route around the Ebro delta and roughly the same speed I would have used around 20litres with the evinrude
Now it’s 5 liters.
Haven’t tested for top speed yet as I need a really calm day.

I went out yesterday in a swell of way over a metre high, so not the best for a top speed run.
Total of 4.5hours cruising at 12 knots a couple of blasts at 19knots (waves making it too bouncy for top speed) and about an hour of trolling at 5 knots
I used 11 litres of fuel
She gets up on the plane at 12knots so I guess that’s somewhere near the most fuel efficient speed. Also the engine is only doing 1200 rpm at that speed.
I am really pleased, it’s like having a complete new boat.

Today I reached 21.9 knots
Averaged 12 knots
I used just under 6 liters of fuel
Not sure about the altitude figure, the waves weren’t that big

I reached 24knots today or 27.6 mph.
Do I really need anymore?
I spilt my cup of tea at 21knots.
I just love my new engine plus it was 26° here today. I’m sunburnt in October
