Identification help please

Hi,

I viewed a boat today which was marketed as a Shetland 536, and had a Shetland 536 decal on the side towards the stern. However, the registration plate stated a Shetland Family 4. Stupidly I did not make a note of the manufacture serial number.

The rail on the bow was a single hoop running bow to stern rather than the wrap around type.

Are there any other differentiating features between an early Family 4 and the 536?

Hi,

I have always understood that at some point in its development the 536 was simply rebadged as the F4, probably for marketing reasons, with minor design adaptations progressing through each mark. It's also likely that as the 536 became the F4, a range of different fittings were used depending as much as what was in stock at the time as what the current design actually was. The GRP hull and topsides were made by Shetland, but all the bits that were bolted on would have been chosen from catalogues or made by other companies and bought in, much the same as car manufacturers do.

That makes sense to me. For a while I was thinking "cut and shut" but glad to hear that it is most likely not

I can confirm what deliquay says. This is my F4, which clearly looks like a 536 but is stamped F4.

She needs a good clean!

Hi,
This is my 536 which looks just like and F4! I was told it was an F$ all the way through the purchasing emails and it was only when i went to see it i discovered it was a 536. I don't believe there is much difference from all the gumph i have read. Just a name change.

Ps notice the same missing roof panel. That is my first attempt to replace it.
