Just bought Shetland 570 #1836

Hello, new to Shetlands but have boated for years.

I need to fit drainage to the bilges from forward cabin and cockpit and an automatic bilge pump . Shetland boats were unable to help me with drawings so if anyone can tell me a bit about the structure of the below deck volume it would be extremely useful to me.

Hi Olddurro,
Just bought a 570 myself a couple of months back. Maybe I´m wrong with this, but isn´t the 570 filled with some sought of foam?? I havent found any way down under to fit a bilge except at the stern. Any answers to this would also interest me. Greetings from the German North Sea. Sean

The 570 mk2 had a foam filled hull the mk1 didn't.

Hi Tom, thanks for the info. Any idea why they put foam down there, sounds a bit silly to me, and just hope it doesn´t get wet somehow. Not being able to "Go Below" is a pain as I plan to run lots of new cables in the spring. (Lighting,Stereo,12V. Sockets and more) Sean

HI,
I believe it is a buoyancy aid. It was part of the unique selling points when new. Shetland advertised it half under water with three guys fishing off it.

I'm not sure when the mk 1 changed to the mk 2.
But I will try to find out.

It is a Mark 2 so presumably it is foamed. What I'm not sure about is whether the volume under the cabin is connected to the volume under the cockpit.

If there is a continuous bilge then I will install a single bilge pump otherwise two may be necessary to keep it dry while afloat. (There was no installed bilge pump when it arrived).

Hi, I have a mk 2 570 with the foam. The plywood floor has rotted away. The foam is allegedly open cell which means if soaked it acts like a sponge and is a pain to dry out. I removed some to form a sump but believe I may have opened a can of worms.
