First time on The Broads

Good evening

We're hoping to bring our Cadet Weekender 'Danusia' for a week on The Broads in the summer (CoVid permitting, obviously!).

Do any forum members have knowledge of the best places to book a holiday mooring for the week and preferably with access to slipways?

Can’t help sorry, but I would be interested in answers to this! I’m sure there is loads of info online but knowledge is better.

I took my Shetland there in the seventies, I was refused access to the water as most of the slipways were in boatyards and was told " we've have hire boats here, why bring your own boat ?". Eventually I found Windboats of Wroxham who let me use their excellent slip. I did has a great holiday cruising the Bure and Ant rivers. This was of course, years ago and things may have changed. I also needed a visitors registration and license from the Broads Authority.

Thanks vreagh, that's really helpful. I'll look up Windboats to see whether they're able to help. Searching the internet it looks like there are plenty of long-term moorings but short term holiday moorings look a bit harder to find!

Try using visitor mooring instead of short term holiday mooring as a search term.
A quick google of 'visitor mooring Norfolk broads' found this near the top;

By their nature, free visitor moorings are usually first come first served, but the ones listed as charging may offer prebooking.

Hi Jon,

Are you planning on heading North or South? North is likely to be mentally busy this year (again), South is generally quiter.

Slipways are listed here

But parking for a week could be an issue.

If you fancy the Northern Broads I would suggest either Cess Road at Martham or Barnes at Wroxham.

Southern Broads, I would look at Oulton or Ting Dene at Brundall.

Parking should be OK at any of those site.

Waveney River Centre (south) or Ferry Marine (north) will provide services and facilities if you need.

Are you petrol or diesel? Petrol is NOT available at the waters edge, but there are a few places were its walkable once moored up.

If its your first trip to the broads, its worth planning your journeys around the tides below Acle (North) and Reedham or Somerleyton (south). Running with rather than against the tide will save quite a bit of fuel, handy if managing petrol for the week.

We've managed to obtain a mooring for the week with our campsite at Thurne.
