If you do go the route of BSS without a cooker, and then refit it once the inspector is walking back to their car, who has the right to refuse your certificate once it has been issued? Only a certified inspector, or possibly a fire officer, is certified to say whether your boat is safe or not, and unless you ask one back on board in an official capacity, no-one with any right to say nay will see your boat until the next inspection.

God forbid something goes bang though, you wouldn't have much insurance cover or legal defence.

This is true, but that said the BSC is there for a reason even tho some of it seems illogical at the time. If anything comes up I don’t get I ask. Also, some inspectors can be more picky than others. Just keeping your boat safe has to be a good idea!

Safety was my concern when I suggested a spirit cooker. There is much less risk of explosion, no pipework to get damaged, no gas locker needing ventilation or a gas bottle hung over the stern.
As long as the golden rule about letting the reservoir cool before refilling is strictly followed, they are much less risky than gas, so preferred by cruising yachts.

dare I say, when a car gets MOT'd the garage can only pass/fail on what is fitted, so if you had a bald spare tyre in the boot you failed, if it was in your garage it couldn't be tested so you passed, so the moral of the story is leave the cooker at home along with any food, you never know

I cant believe all the red tape that has followed since I owned my last boat in 1979.
Yes make things safe, eg fire extinguishers etc. But gas lockers - drilled air breathing holes for battery gasses to escape - ruining your boat, (it escaped perfectly ok when on my last boat, and adequate ventilation on this boat)
I never had one single problem when I had my double burner camping gas stove. Always changed bottle on shore.
Its just unbelievable now it really is!

I always got annoyed about the fuel hose supplied by the outboard manufacturer not being up to bss standard. I'm glad they have no jurisdiction at sea...
