Once again, unashamedly bumping my own thread

I decided that this year we needed to take her out of the water and do some jobs that really need doing.

Plans include polishing and painting the hull, cleaning the transom, staining and varnishing the rubbing strakes, making good a little bit of damage, servicing the engine, replacing the various stickers and decals and generally tidying up where I wouldn’t normally be able to reach.







The hull was pressure washed when she was lifted so the next job was to remove anything that the light fingered might liberate; so off with the engine, fenders, flagstaff, mast, anchor and chain, and ropes. All now awaiting a little love and warmth over the winter.

The outboard mount seems to be good, just needs a bit of a clean:



The spare tatty winter canopy was removed and stowed, and on with the winter cover.



So that’s how she sits right now, awaiting the start of the “winter works”. I’ll update as I go along.

Bit late picking this up, but read your upgrades thread with interest. The Saxon is also remarkably similar to my 4+2, including the interior layout (even down to the cream plastic tap!). Main difference is the position of the Houdini hatch and the narrower beam. They are indeed a product of their time colour wise! Fortunately mine had already be re-upholstered with a nice blue fabric and had a complete refit with grey linings. Funny how things work out. With grey being the colour the grey panels work quite well for now, allowing me to worry about more needed updates. The cockpit cushions are new in cream and the hood black so the colour way is cream, grey and black and works well. I've just replaced the outboard mount timber with was completely rotten, so keep an eye on it.
What did you use on the rubbing strip? Nice to see all the photos.
