New member - about to buy a 535

Just looking at a 535 and I wondered if there were any gotchas or nasties I should be aware of before I hand over my hard earned cash.

Its a 535 with a Mercury 40 on the back, covers and a four wheeled trailer.

The boat will be the easy bit which is why shetlands are so well loved

trailer bearings (check for any play) and type will be a big factor and try to get one with wheels that are not tiny.

The engine i.e. you must compression test it, check gearbox oil for bits and get all service details. also look for flakey paint near the spark plugs and if it is a 4 stroke before 1998 it will probably have a cpu and hence ask for the all the deatils stored on it i.e. hours, revs, warnings etc.

it should also come with fishfinder ( used for depth) fire blanket, 2nd engine vhf radio if used on the sea, life jackets (note the life part) 25l+ fuel tank, nav lights, etc.

Well thats good. The trailer is sound, the engine is sweet.

No fire blanket or VHF radio but it does have a fish finder, navigation lights and I have a pack of four lifejackets (I'd be a bit reticent using second hand jackets anyway).

I bought the beastie and she will be in my drive for the next wee while, during which I will do the restoration work and get the thing tidied up. The photos on the gallery part are really good for inspiration. I really like the car stereo panel at the front of the cabin, except I will also include a smart phone dock, this being the 21st century and all!
