90hp too much for a 535?

Hi All

I posted here a few months back about getting back into boat ownership this year. Now at the stage where I'm seriously looking to buy, as have a berth confirmed on the Isle of Wight from the beginning of March.

There is a Shetland 535 advertised on Facebook Market Place that looks to be in good order and ticks most of my boxes. However, it's fitted with a 90hp 2 stroke outboard and the boat was originally rated for 65hp max. Does anyone know if these 535's can handle a 90hp without issues? And also what possible issues with insurance if running a setup that is beyond the design limits?

I appreciate that I could buy the boat and then downsize the engine but for this season I really want a boat I can just enjoy without too much messing around.

Max hp rating for 535 is 65hp. Extra beefing on transom and notifying the insurance company needed to exceed 65hp. Way to much hp and weight to my way of thinking. There's not many opportunities to use that much power.

The transom could easily have been damaged. Also, a 90 hp 2-stroke will be getting old and the fuel consumption will be horrendous.

Thanks for replies. Think I'll give this one a miss! Quite a few turning up on the market now and so far, prices seem to be looking a bit more sensible than last season.
