4 plus 2 hard top - height above water

Hello all.

I have recently sold my 535 with the intention of buying a 4 plus 2.

Over the weekend, we viewed a hard top model, and was all set to buy it until my wife raised concerns around bridge height clearance on canals near to us (Nottingham).

Unfortunately, after days of trying, it is impossible to find accurate measurements of either the height of the 4 plus 2 hard top above the waterline, or the height of canal bridges. I am aware that factors such as water levels, boat weight etc play a part in this.

Do any 4 plus 2 hard top owners have any info regarding their own boats, or more accurate height above water measurements, that may help me?

Don't even get me started on the official website measurements

This may not be a lot of help, but I have carefully measured the heights etc on my 4+2 softtop while afloat.

Hood up 2.29 Mtrs - 7'6"
Hood down 2.03 Mtrs - 6'8"
Glass down 1.70 Mtrs - 5'7"
Width of screen 1.83 Mtrs - 6'
Draft 0.70 Mtrs - 26" ( to base of outboard)

Obviously the hard top is higher than the soft top, but the screen width is probably similar

Apologies for the slow reply on this. Bob, your response was helpful. Thanks for going into so much detail.

We have put down a deposit on a beautiful hard-top 4 plus 2, and are currently looking at options for moving it to Nottingham, where we are based. Long story short, the boat is rather unsuitable for the area it's currently based in, and we would be taking somewhat of a chance if we needed to cruise a fair way down there to move it, in terms of height clearances.

However, I think things are finally coming together, so hopefully over the next month I should complete the purchase.

Quite a step up from my previous Shetland 535, although after being my pride and joy for the last 12 or so years, I'm not half going to miss it!

I know what you mean, I had a Black Hawk for many years before getting the 4+2. A lovely little boat - would go anywhere. Am rather more limited with the 4+2 (can't do Oxford, Coventry, Trent & Mersey etc) not sure if I can get under Potter Heigham bridge either !
