Unfortunately, the original forum data storage is incompatible with this newer and more sophisticated software, so it has not been possible to import the previous posts. Most of the rest of the site has however been imported successfully, (galleries, specs etc).

Have no fear though, all of that very useful input from the members has not been lost. The archive material is available via http://www.shetland.owners.org.uk/forums/forums.asp , and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

I believe admin will be providing a direct link via this site's menu structure, as soon as she has recovered from the enormous task of setting up the new site and importing the other data and member lists !

Sorry I have difficulty finding my way round the site as most of it is now empty, and all the useful information including boat performance etc. is lost at least on this site.
Searches reveal nothing in the history but with patience that will be replaced.

Remind us..What was wrong with the'old' format?

Personally I thought the old forum was outdated in it's style and format. I'm sure the new forum will come on leaps and bounds over the next few months

There was nothing wrong with the old forum but this will be better for all members as it will enable people to add thier own pictures which is a lot of work for poor Paul.

I also am looking forward to to having more chats with our Scottish members with everyone in that group taking part as I get personal emails at the moment t6hat I can not always help with i.e. apart from x or y where is good to get your boat surveyed/ re fitted etc

We had to change the format for one simple reason. Paul the editor of the old site has single handed run the site since 2004 but wishes to retire. The old site was written in a language not really used these days and no one else understood it. so in order to preserve the mine of infomation we had to create a new site that a non computer techie ( such as me) could preserve that infomation. This new format allows uploading of pictures without having to wait for some one else to do it and for a few other people to run the site instead of relying on one.

One other assest is that new members can now pay by credit card - the old site would not allow ths, which simplifies things.

Over the summer the site will populate itself, we still have lots to transfer but we wanted a working site up and running before the heavy boating trafiice of high season

Congratulations to all concerned in getting the new website "up and running" I am sure it will be a hugh success just as the old site was. Got to move with the times........

Is it not possible to export all the old data to say Excel, then rearrange/manipulate the fields/data to suit phpbb then import?
