Gelcoat

As part of my seemingly long term refurb I am considering re gelcoating the hull.

Better to do it now than after I have done the deck and topsides for the hassle and obvious scratches I will make with my luck in turning it over.

Does anyone have experience of gelcoat. I can not understand, with the sanding involved anyway, why spray would be better than rolling and tipping??

Anyone have any throughts?

its a nightmare working with gelcoat unless you have the perfect working environment and conditions, i went for a 2k paint job on my hull, its expensive stuff, but its the business, although im sure gelcoat will be more expensive. good luck, alan

So I have heard! In for a penny in for a pound!

The hull doesnt really need it but I may give it a go whilst there is no glass etc on the topside and I can flip it.

I am not adverse to paint but run the boat pretty hard and hear gel is much tougher, nothing worse than getting a lovely finish on the boat and then chipping it!

Your thoughts on what is tougher would be very welcome!
