Replacing a deck on shetland 535

Hi there i have a shetland 535 i have taken the old deck up and got it back to the hull, im stuck because im not sure how to do the uprights or what materials to use so i can screw the new marine ply to it. i thought about using half inch ply up on its side for strength and then screwing marine ply to that? any idears would be helpfull thanks Tom

marine ply and fibre glass them in. a nasty job but well worth the effort.

if it is for the stringers or ribs I would go with foam and glass it in, still nasty but far easier to shape than ply. A couple coats of woven matt and they will be strong as an ox! Then an 18mm ply deck on top .... that was my plan last november still progressing the project however! Seems a simple job but alas takes more time than you could imagine to get a really neat finish.

On my 535 it is only a single skin and the floor only went across the centre senction of the cockpit.
I was concerned that having just a single section of GRP between me and water was not a good idea especially if I dropped anything sharp and it damaged the hull!

When I replaced the floor I used 18mm ply and shaped and fitted it in two sections across the whole width of the hull. I used sections of timber screwed to the underside to support the deck on the existing ribs. I then used epoxy resign over the whole deck, top & bottom to make it waterproof, and then painted it with anti-slip deck paint.

I did not see the need to add any supports on the hull sides as it would not achive anything but just add weight.

Hi I am very new to this need lots of advice just got my first boat Shetland 535 have taken out deck and cabin floors , chipboard under fibreglass was wet saw dust ,foam taken out as well but there were no stringers or ribs any were so i do not have a clue were to put them back in, can any one help please Barton

I'll be visiting Meggy, my 535, on Saturday. I'll take a pic of the cockpit area, whick is currently bare so you can see where the ribs are and what they look like.

On mine they seem to be an integral part of the hull

I think the reinforcing bars in the floor of the cockpit might only be in later 535s. I know that mine has them, but back in the day my Dad also had a 535 (an early model), and he says he has no memory of ever seeing them in his.

HI well that may be the case there no stain marks on hull were they would have been was only foam , do you recommend i put some in or not , and thank you ,

all so no stains marks on hull in deck area , is this the way they were made on early models
