Shetland 570 'togi duck' info needed

Hi everyone,

Very new to the boating scene, i have recently purchased a Shetland 570 mk2 , named togi duck.

The boat is pretty good all round, but have a few issues that with some advice could be resolved.

1- the navigation controls dont work,including vhf,fishfinder,nav lights. seems like half the wiring is open circuit ,as the stereo and cabin light still work?? checked fuses by the way and ok. took cover off and the wiring doesnt look too clever. anyone know where i could obtain a wiring diagram or some further info?

2- there's water in the cabin floor, looks like it came from the hatch and have tried drying it up,i would like to open the transom drain bung on stern but dont know how it works? when i loosen the nut, it goes in the way instead of out. is this the way its meant to be or is it damaged?

3- on the port side under the cabin seat, there is a cylindrical unit screwed into the hull with a single wire coming from it.currently not connected to anything. anyone know what it might be ? i would have thought if it was a bilge pump there would be hoses coming from it also.

Hi Angus,

The answer to 3, it could well be a transponder for an echo sounder or log (nautical speedometer). Look at the ouside of the hull, if there is a small paddle wheel sticking out it will be the log. Hope this helps.

hi, there is no wheel. have attached pics of it to identify it. it was just stuck on, no screws .

It's an echo sounder transducer, they can be fitted through a hole in the hull with the nuts, normally in wooden boats. Through hull operation by sticking it to the hull or in a tube of caster oil works well in GRP but with some loss of sensitivity.

hey thanks for info, yes seen pics of it! going to re-do everything internally whenever i can get time off work.

1- i pulled out the wiring and starting from the beginning ( except control cables from engine)

2 - water was coming from the forward hatch. the transom bung clamp thingy was stripped so knocked it out and got a new one

3- yes it was an in hull transducer! no unit for it tho ,but bought a new garmin 750s

the boat doesnt have the auxilary yamaha 5hp anymore, going to get another, anyone know if it be long shaft or short shaft?
