(couldn't post in tech) 570 RUBBER FENDER

Sorry for posting in general. For some reason there was no 'new topic' button in technical forum.

Does anyone know what the required length of fender strip for 570 is?

By my calculations 15m should do it, but then I was never very good at calculations.

Can't get to boat before ordering. Will be fitting it day of next trip.

im sure when i did mine i got 16m, you have to stretch it as far as you can. make sure there is 2 of you doing it. bugger of a job, lubricate the hull lip with plenty of stuff too. make sure you feed it over all of the fixing lugs too. warm the rubber strake up as best you can, makes it easier. best done in the summer, or have a bloody big tub of hot water there. good luck, the air turned blue when i did mine, it gets ya that way.

We did ours last year. We ordered 20 metres. Its a bitch of a job. You will need 2 people. We put ours in a hot bath of water to soften it, ran down stairs on to the drive and then stretched it on. Our neighbours are used to our bizarre behaviour stretch it Start at transon fix it with a screw and then stretch to the bow, do it on a fairly warm day. No way will it sit if its too cold. Good luck

Thank you. Did anyone have left overs? The dimensions of 570 are 2.08 x 5.7 m, which would come to 15.56 IF the boat were rectangular, which it isn't. Also half a width to subtract at back.

Ordered the 15m before replies. Hope it fits! Eek.

We used a tin bath (used to bath the dogs in), very hot water, sat the rubber in it until very pliable and the the two of us stretched and fitted it..... Having done the same on a 535 a 570 is a doddle, the knack is getting the rubber as hot as possible but not stretching it too much otherwise when it shrinks back in the cold it will crack, very rewarding when done!

Encouraged about the process now.

Just wonder if anyone has fitted a 15m length specifically. I don't want to over stretch as this fairly rigid PVC product is more likely to crack when knocked than rubber. I would imagine it still needs to retain some integrity once fitted. If stretched to far, the force of impact has nowhere to go.

Any advance on 16m?

Just measured the fender. littleboatporthaven seem to have sent me about 18m thankfully. I'm very confident about the fit now.

Going to try it alone tomorrow with an armory of G-clamps and lube. Just a regular weekend.
