Vhf radios / mmsi ?????

If I buy a new vhf (dsc) radio will it come with a mmsi number ?

No. when you apply for your OFCOM licence they will give you a mmsi number. It is unique to the radio and not the boat

So I then put the mmsi they give me into the radio?

Can I apply for it now or wait until I have the radio in my hand ?

you will have to have the number of your radio licence ( the piece ofpaper they give you once you have completed the VHS course) Then apply to Ofcom, it can all be done on line

Just an update , got my ships licence , got my radio a cobra f55 dsc , and have now got my mmsi and call signal.

You can then register the mmsi number with the coast guard free of charge online once you have it.
The site allows you to put in details about boat, you, emergency contact details and pictures.
So if you ever hit the red button, they have all the info needed...
