When is the best time to sell

I have a well loved Shetland 2 plus2 for sale with a little used 80 hp four stroke Yamaha moored on the Solent which I have owned for 6 years. I don't want a lot for it as I have bought a new boat already.

My question is... Should I take it out of the water on it's trailer and sell it early next year hoping not to have to put it back in to do a sea trial or should I leave it in and put it up for sale immediately whilst it is still in the water when a sea trial would not be a problem.

Also should I give the option of a sale separating the engine and boat as anyone on the canals or broads would hardly want 80 horse power.

When I bought it I was happy to buy it off the trailer but would most people like to see it in the water?

We have just sold our 570 and she was on her moorings at the time. I personally think its easier if the new owner can try the boat out instead of just gazing at her on the trailer. I would not seperate boat from engine as most potential buyers want a complete package. Wouldn't you?

We sold out 570 with a 70 HP on the back as we are Solent/Sed ea based and need the power. She went to an inland scenario, so as far as I am concerned, that is her new owners decision, we sold her as a package. Hope this helps

selling with or without an engine is up to you but you get more as bits but far more trouble as you are selling 2 things and not just one and you will need to take the engine and controls off.

Got a sea trial with a guy tomorrow. I cleared all the junk off of it so it now sit's higher in the water and should go even faster.
Seems like he went away and realised what a good deal my boat is, I hope.

Not a purchase inquiry, just a general info query. How much does your craft weigh when on the trailer? Oh, and how long is the whole set up?

They are difficult questions as the boat is still on the water but I will give it a go on the length at least.

The boat is quoted as 5.36 metres. Plus I measure the length from the bow to the tow ball on my trailer is 1.8 metres Plus the outboard raised sticks out about 1.0 metres. So I make that 8.16 metres.

As for the weight I have no idea except I tow it the short distance from Keyhaven river to my home behind an aged Vauxall Vectra which by coincidence was weighed yesterday as I picked up some gravel from the local gravel pit and weighs in at 1500 KG give or take a bit.

I would say the boat is well more than a tonne but some more experienced members may have weighed theirs and have an actual weight. The engine is a Yamaha 80 four stroke which is not the lightest of engines. Then there is the trailer itself. Another 600kg may be added as it is a four wheel close coupled one. So I don't think 80 mph down the motorway is a good idea.

I am currently doing my research before a purchase. I am currently torn between a Family Four or a 2+2. I hope to store it on a trailer at a local marina hardstand on the Thames. This is to avoid the higher cost of a pontoon mooring and give me some flexibility to take the boat to other locations occasionally. The majority of the trailer moves will really only be from the hardstand to the water and back but I currently run a Nissan Xtrail with a 2000kg towing limit, hence the questions.
