Shetland Family 4 Review

Hi,

We've recently reviewed the Shetland Family 4, looking at what has been said about this boat by the industry experts, engineers and owners. I thought I would post a link to the article on this forum to see what your thoughts were.

You should contact Robin Mathews, a member here from Aberdeen. He wrote probably the best ever accounts of the Family four being used for what it was designed for. The articles are still available I think on the old site and are wonderful reading

Colin: Nice to hear from you again - wasn't sure if you were still around, mainly because I have been rather intermittant myself due to pressures of work. And thanks very much for your kind words - much appreciated. I hope that you have had some good trips in Yala this summer?

Rightboat: The accounts that Colin refers to are probably still on the old SOA site, but they are also on my website about our Family Four at http://shetlandf4.wordpress.com/ under the Trip Logs menu, along with some other stuff on the various things that we have done to her since we have had her. The website is still a work in progress and by no means complete, but I am adding to it as I get time. I am currently writing up our trip last year around the Sound of Arisaig and the Small Isles, which I hope to have finished by the new year or thereabouts. Next will be this year's trip around Seil, Jura and Islay. I don't know what sort of comments you are after, but I know our F4 inside out having now completely refurbished her, and can vouch for her seaworthiness, having put it to the test in interesting conditions on the west coast at various stages.

I think I'm a bit like you, I pop in most days but don't often post. Not a bad summer had a few weekends out, the weather was wonderful. Cheers for the link, I'm off to have a look
