Antifoul

Hello all, I'm looking to antifoul my speedwell over the coming month and am looking at the numerous different antifoul paints out there. can anyone recommend an antifoul paint for a speedwell based in saltwater? any other tips for a novice are always welcome.

I don't use antifouling myself as our boat is on a drying mooring and never seems to get any growth on it over a season, but I am sure there will be others here who can recommend a good one.

There was an article in Practical Boat Owner a couple of years ago comparing different types, so if you subscribe to that you could do a search on their website to see if it turns up.

I have used Jotun Sea Queen anti-foul and found that it lasts well and does what it says on the tin

You do have to follow their instructions but otherwise I have found it a good product.

Hi,

Fouling conditions change across different regions of the uk, the best advice will come from other boat owners in your area. Broadly speaking you will want an eroding antifoul if you have a displacement speed boat on a mooring that doesn't dry out or a hard antifoul if you have a really fast boat on a drying mooring.
In west wales hempels tiger extra is popular because we get a lot of growth, but you may not need such a strong formula in your area.

By coincidence, there is an article in the most recent issue of Practical Boat Owner (No. 569) where they compare 14 anti-fouling paints. International Micron Extra was the most effective, in the Hamble at least.
