Hi. Just recently purchased a Shetland 27 (2011 year) but have no owner's manual. Have consistently tried to get one from Shetland but having no joy despite promises to send me one. Any ideas where I can beg, borrow or steal one to photostat as still uncertain on some operating details and functions. Also have a speed and depth gauge but speed indicator not working or, perhaps, I don't know how to get working. Any help appreciated.

Am thinking of buying a shetland 27 myself and have recently met with James. Feeling a bit nervous as unsure how good the finish is going to be as there is no finished boat to view. Were you happy with your build and the final result.

Hello WibWob. Purchased my Shetland second hand (built August 2011). Actually like new, only 60 engine hours. Am very pleased with boat but as there were some controls that I had no idea about did ask James for an Owner's Manual but, apparently there is no such thing, only individual instruction manuals for manufacturer's fitments. It took me ages to even find the fuses. Even a basic manual would have been of some use. The boats are, in my opinion, good value and certainly perform well on the Thames where I live. Pleasing point is that I am able to handle the craft on my own without any assistance in locks or mooring etc. My boat has a bow thruster which is very useful. If you can afford it, would recommend both bow and stern thrusters as they are very useful. If you intend using in tidal waters it would probably pay to have the larger engine than mine (56hp diesel). Did recently discover a minor problem in that when it rains heavily water creeps back into cockpit and finishes in the bilges under seats at stern. Cured by adhering a narrow plastic strip to stop water running back from sides under hood and along entrance gunwhale. Overall, a good boat for a realistic price.

Congratulations on the new boat. We have recently bought a 2006 Shetland 27 and are just getting to know her.
I see that Shetland have changed the shape of the side windows on WibWob although their web site still shows the old shapes. No doubt the nerds amongst us will be using these to distinguish the Mark 1 from the Mark 2 in future. i assume that these are now the standard fit and were not a special request.
