Hello from Worcestershire/Depth sounder advice

Hi all,

Just thought I'd say hello as a new member of the site.

Unlike some of you speed demons on here with your exciting 30mph whippets I have a 1979 Shetland 640 Jessica Marie with a 15hp engine which cruises at a maximum of 6 knots on the River Avon in Worcestershire. I'll post some pics when I can work it out.

I'm really enjoying reading all the posts and learning a lot about Shetlands. I'm really pleased with the boat.

Is anyone on the River Avon? If so I hope to say hello as you pass Wyre Piddle

Can anyone on here recommend a good quality, reasonably priced depth sounder which doesn't require drilling a hole in my hull?

we use to have a handheld depth/fish finder beofre we bought a super dooper one.
Trawl ebay - they are bright yellow, run on 4 batteries and fit nicely in a mobile phone holder. serch for hand held fish finder

I fitted a Garmin fish finder to my old classic impala and will be transferring it to my Shetland 4+2.
I used 25mm white plastic conduit to run the cable down the outside of the transom. Using saddle clamps I was able to attach to the boat without the need to drill holes below the waterline.
25mm is necessary to be able to feed the cabe and connector through.
Plenty of 2nd hand fish finders around. You can also fit a paddle wheel using the same method, which will give you an indication of speed as well.
