Sea Sickness

Post by zimboy »

Anyone with a good remedy or cure for sea sickness, as my partner suffers badly. Have tried ''Sea Legs'' and they don't work ?

Eating some raw ginger is supposed to work. My wife uses wrist bands that seem to work too (possibly a placebo affect?)

Hi.
Is your dearly beloved getting sea sick when you are anchored up fishing in a swell or when you are motoring along? If the latter, get her to drive the boat. It worked for me many years ago whilst on sea a fishing trip in a round bilge boat that rolled like a pig. I ended up steering the boat for the whole mackrel spinning trip. Also, to prove the point in a way, I have known colleagues that got car sick as a passenger (Especially if map reading) but were always OK when they were driving.

One way of reducing the rolling effect on the body is to sway your body in the opposite direction to the roll of the boat so that, in effect, your body is vertical and stationary and not rolling in sync with the boat. This also worked for me whilst Marlin fishing once upon a time. I eventually got used to the motion and on the return trip, was able to sit by the gunwhale, where the rise and fall of the hull was most pronounced weithout any ill effect.

Having said all that, I dont go near fairground rides or big dippers !!!!!!!!!!!

Regards.

Stugeron tablets. They are none drowsey and they work.
Also try getting really angry and shout a lot. It's a laugh, shouting at every one for no apparent reason and before you know it your up and busy and forgetting to feel seasick.

Stugeron worked for me when working on HM minehunters (they roll around a lot)
That & try to keep an eye on the horizon, no book reading etc.

did 17 yrs on minesweepers, alas I was never sick, bit of a nuisance really, it meant I was always on watch, blah. Keeping busy & going with the sway & watching an horizon can help, when stuck in the engine room we would watch a lamp swing so you always new what the vertical was, good luck. cheers Magic.

Which class ? I was on Ton class sweepers & hunters, mainly Iveston, Wilton (the only glassfibre one), & Kirkliston
Also Hunt class, Brecon, Ledbury, & Cattistock, & River class - Waveny & Carron.
My company provided navigation (precision) equipment for them all prior to GPS being used, & I did a lot of sea trials, experiments, & training.
Best hunter of all was BH7 the trials hovercraft, but it was never taken up for fleet use.
