Auxiliary engine

Hi, is there a recommended size/make of aux engine. For My 570 . Just in case of main engine failure .. Many thanks Trev. And is it short OR Long shaft.

I have used a 2hp and 2.3hp on my Shetland 535, which is a little smaller and lighter than your 570. I wouldn't want to go any lower than that for my 535, so I'd guess you'd want to go a little higher as a bare minimum for a 570.

There are many 570 owners on here, so somebody else may pop by soon to give you some better advice.

As for make/type of engine, it may come down to what you want to use it for. I have mine as a backup for when I'm on the sea, but I also use it on canals and rivers quite often, as it doesn't make sense running the big engine all the time at such slow speeds. So for that reason I have a new-ish 4 stoke auxiliary. If it is literally just to get you out of trouble if the big engine dies, then you might find an older 2-stoke is fine (as long as it's reliable!).

we had a 5hp on the back of our 570. Bear in mind we are coastal and sea going and needed a bit of ump

Hi I have a marina 4hp as an auxiliary on my shetland black hawk use it rather than the 90hp marina sometimes to poodle round poole harbour saves loads of petrol!

I have a 9.9hp as an auxiliary on the back of a 535 good for around 8 mph. Great for fishing and saving fuel and a lot quiter than the big two stroke.
