Hello All,

As a new member here, I'd just like to say hello to everybody. I'm looking forward to asking questions, sharing information, tips and tricks. Probably mostly asking questions at first

I'm based in Lancashire, married, have two dogs (Woody the Weimaraner and Eddie the Westie) and I'm in the IT business.

I've just purchased a 570 from a very nice couple who I beleive frequent these parts and I have a query about this particular model. Whilst I was looking at boats, some (most?) 570's had 'plugs'. This particular one doesn't have a plug, the 'hole' on the stern has been sealed (not by the couple I purchased from) and I wondered why some have plugs and some don't. Is it just a case of owner preference and if so, what would be the benefits of sealing the hole, other than not having to remember the plug

If the hull takes water from perhaps hull fittings, leaking windows, table mount, poor maintenance etc, how is one supposed to get rid of it (I saw a number of shetlands with a lot of water in the hull when I was looking) other than driling a hole?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to my introduction to the 570.

as far as water goes then you simply need an electric bilge pump which will pump water out the back

these can be automatic on a float switch or manual as and when you want to pump.

Its surprising how much water can get in then. My windows leak as I'm yet to replace them as part of my rebuild. after a week of all the thunder storms etc. there was a fair bit in the bilge even though its covered.

Mine is a Mark 1 and doesn't have a drain plug although that may also be the case with a mark 2, no idea, seems hit and miss.

I think if you trailer the boat then a drain plug may be useful, if its moored then I wouldn't bother

I'm also in Lancs; my 535 is stored at Inskip, between Preston and Blackpool. And am perhaps only a little bit further along the learning curve than you!
