chartplotter apps

Hi all
I'm thinking of buying a tablet to use as a chartplotter for coastal trips, but there seem to be all sorts of bits of feedback out there! Does anyone have some advice for me - ipad? Google Nexus? Samsung tablet? I was thinking primarily of the Nexus because I thought a 10 inch screen was a bit big, and 7 inch would be better, but then I see that Navionics stuff doesn't always work too well, so now I'm wondering....

Any experiences you'd like to share?

Hi,
I use a 10" Android tablet (Motorola Xoom) works very well with Navionics UK & Holland version. great for route plotting, marking fishing hot spots etc. I use mine in a waterproof bag from amazon (for any tab)

Have recently added 5 wrecks just off Stonehaven to visit next week, plotted the route in already - just switch on and follow the route!

Hi

The cheapest way of doing it is to get MX Mariner and download charts for your specific region. For the app and one set of UK chart it's about £10. This app also lets you add the app/map to another device, I've got it on my phone as a back up.

The charts it gives you are the scan/raster type not the full digital vector ones but they cost a lot more.

As for screen size I've got a Nexus 7 and think it's a bit small. A 10" would be much better.

Looks like I need to consider 10inch, and I'll investigate both MX and Navionics. I don't intend to go very far but I really don't want to get lost in fog that can come up quite suddenly here! Just need something fairly basic to make sure we're all safe.
