Hello to all forum members. Well after 15yrs without a shetland i decided it was time to put that right again and picked up a 570. Well it was late in august 2016 and I had saw a few and eventually found just what i wanted although she had chickens laying eggs in her the 1st time i saw her i could see the potential. So I bought a road worthy trailer and took her from the rusty thing she sat on in the barn/coop and brought her home,then started with the cabin recovering the couple of cushions that were there and making new ones for those that were missing then fitted new carpet to hull roof and floor some curtains were knocked up a sink and sink unit were also made and fitted,finally some LED lights were added to her. Then the cockpit,once again i moved some bits about and gave her new carpet all round then made pedestals and fitted 2 swivel seats she was starting to get there. Then it was time to test my sewing skills to the max (im a blacksmith to trade) and knock up a pram hood. Well it took a few beers and a few night but the hood was done apart from windows in back and side panels (still debating if i will). It was now the start of November but the sun was shining and off to loch lomond i went for her 1st dip and off she went without a hitch a job well done an 2 other shetland owners asking about my pram hood (no im not taking orders lol).
The only other things i have done in the last month now its warmed up a bit is give her red antifouling and put a bigger outboard on from a 50hp to a 90hp. Thanks for reading my post and stay safe out there....

Hi Stewzy73, Question,when you've done the roof carpet,which looks superb,did you cut it around the escape hatch or did you actually remove the hatch? I have what looks like an identical unit but can't sus out how the interior trim frame comes off so I can do a similar makeover to replace my ageing carpet Cheers Magic.

Dave i used veltrim from a company called harrison trim based in west yorkshire (you can find them on ebay under toeragstruckmats 01274877733) its the stuff folk use for campervans and the likes plus its fire rated and rot proof. what i did was where the opening is on wooden roof panel i kept carpet about 3" over the opening i then fixed panel to roof then using trimfix spray glue sprayed around hatch an back of carpet,then with a flat scraper i pushed it in around the hatch frame then trimed excess off with a stanley. I'll be down on boat tomorrow so will take a close up to show the finish im very happy with it. When sticking carpet i used a brass roller to make sure it went on flat and true (give it a good roll out before trimming ) hope this helps and will get pics for you tomorrow

Can I ask what performance change you saw changing engines and what was the top speed with the 50hp

Sorry for late reply disschord with 90hp at 5600rpm was 37mph on gps with the 50hp 5100rpm 26mph need a change of on 50hp to bring rpm up though.
