Help with age of 536

Hi all,
I have an old 536, that I have taken from sad lump of fibreglass, to a fully functional boat again. It's still a bit tatty here and there, but with a few more weeks of elbow grease, she should be a very acceptable craft.
Anyway, as I will be mooring her on the river, the mooring company has asked for insurance, and they, in turn have asked for the boat details. The only thing I don't know, is the approx age of manufacture, so I am asking if anyone can help out with a rough year of build.
The serial number is 7641, and she is a plain old Shetland 536, no flash/fancy names at the end !

Hi Paul,
Have you had any luck finding the age of your 536? I also have a 536 and have searched to find the age without success.
I have seen a lot of info for different models (there seems to be plenty for the 535).

No. No answers or suggestions from anybody.
I also emailed Shetland Boats to see if they could look through any records, but I didn't even get a response from them.

That's a shame, I was thinking about contacting Shetland. It's surprising that it's so difficult to get information on such popular British brand.
Do you know what years the 536 were made?

I'm pretty sure they started making the 536 in 1976, the same year they stopped the 535 as the 536 was the replacement boat.
I also think the hull numbers may have carried on from the 535.
By that I mean the last 535 was say hull number 7000, the first 536 would have been 7001.
However I don't know much more and can't find anything to back up what I'm saying......

The 536 was the replacement for the 535, and was itself rebadged as the F4 in 1978, starting at serial number 8556. Your 536 will be between 1975- 1978.
Since your boat is over 40 years old, a lot of insurers will expect a marine survey within the last few years, because they do most of their business with boats worth a lot more than the worlds best kept 536. It's usually cheaper to pay a bit more for an insurer who doesn't need a survey than to pay for a survey telling you less than you already know about your boat.

With reference to insurance. I went with Craftinsure because they don't want a survey or any sort of report as long as the boat is under 27ft and fully comp was £157 for my 535...

On the website below it states the 536's production years between 1973-78.
Have a look on the website, there is a bit of info on a lot of other Shetland's as well, it's quite interesting.
