Things to look out for - helping out with a 570

Thanks for allowing me to join the forum. I'm going to pay a visit to a friend who bought a Shetland 570 to look over the boat and see if we can get it on the water. First job is to get the fire blanket, extinguisher and CO alarm fitted so that it passes the boat safety inspection. Are there any other things more experienced owners would suggest that I look at, inspect, etc. especially if I am going to try and get it going? I'm more used to dinghy sailing and have manned the safety boat, but not familiar with motor boats like the 570

Check the integrity and strength of the transom and see if the flooring seems 'spongy' as some boats have foam under the boards which have been known to soak up water. The 570 is a good boat and well worth spending a little time getting it up to spec.

I got the boat going and took it out for a short trip. Needs a lot of TLC and cleaning, the cabin roof seems to have deterioated.

I couldn't easily find details about the canopy, so I laboured away and took all the panels off. Since it folds down, I wonder if I am approaching this incorrectly? Seems odd to take the side panel off and then crawl through - I was thinking maybe unclip the front of the canopy and then would it fold back?

Any advice much appreciated. I'm looking forward to cleaning her up and taking her out while the weather is reasonable!

It's been awhile since I had a canopy on my Shetland. I had a flap at the transom which made entry easy. You could release the front and fold it back but I found it a faf trying to undo the side clips when canopy was folded back.

Not a 570, but I had a Black Hawk (Same hull),
Remove side curtains,& store, then unclip canopy from windscreen & fold back so it rests on the transom.

I’m thinking of adding a couple of supports either side so the two frame tubes can remain mounted and positioned above the engine.

I just got the boat and it took me about 20 mins to put the canopy up the first time. The sides popped on and off easily and I can see me using the boat with the top part only if it’s a damp day.
