If you're sure there's no leaks through the seals or holes in the cabin/deck, I've heard of leaks via the deck to hull join where the sealing has failed.

It's not just the weight of the engine, there's fuel, battery any gear you carry on the boat and last but not least you have to add the weight of the trailer as well as 750kgs is the gross weight of load and trailer.

Legally you need a braked trailer if the load and trailer weight adds up to 750kgs or more. As the Shetland Family Four weighs in at around 750kgs itself, you would be running without insurance as well as illegally.

When I bought my Shetland (new) it was supplied with wire rope steering and a cheap pulley and steering wheel. I would have thought that after 50 years most boats would have had a change of system. If you're just changing the wheel, make sure it will fit the size and taper (if any) of the shaft.

I don't have any experience of electric outboards but I do use a 4hp petrol outboard as a auxiliary engine at sea on my 535. I find it useful for trolling and have tested it for emergency use to get home to harbour against an outgoing tide. It won't break any speed records but surely that's not ...
