With respect Sue the picture of your 570 only shows it has deeper sides than a 535 . The bottom of the hull is identical in shape, this is easy to see if viewed from the rear or underneath the boat . I do think this point needs to be clarified as to the difference between hull types, what I don’t want is offend or upset anybody. I have respect for you and appreciate the work you do for this site and all of the members but I do think you incorrect in this matter. so I recommend any member wishing to have this issue clarified to look in the library section at Shetlands original descriptions of the 610 and the 570. I have done this and the 610 is described as having a “deep V hull” and the 570 as having a “gull wing hull design” I feel sure they knew what they were talking about when they made these fantastic little boats.

Hello. I might be able to throw some light on this as I think you are both right. Back in the heady late 70's, I owned a 570 - only a few months old out of the factory - a mrk 1 without portholes. Several years on having got larger and larger boats I bought a mrk 2 (with portholes) 570 as I no longer needed a family boat. and just wanted to fish. The hulls on both were slighly different. The Mrk 2 as in the picture posted is sleeker than the Mrk1 anmd I was always under the impression it was designated a v hull. Somewhere in the family archives I will dig out the photos of both my boats and have alook

I still have a shetland - now a 27 as grandchildren have appeared - old times again.

I have been doing a bit more digging after reading what Galaxyman wrote . what I have found is on page 2 in the library in the 1979 original brochure that I donated to the SOA a couple of years ago. I still have the original. It would appear (I am pleased to say) that both Sue and myself are correct. If you read the first page “the boat story” Shetland developed their “Gull wing hull” from a deep V hull and used the best bits from both types of hull which they refer to as “Gull wing hull” because of the Gull wing shape but it does retain also a small v in the centre so I suppose they could of called it a gull wing V hull.
Ps. They are referring to the mk2 in this brochure
I’m glad I’ve cleared that one up , I need a drink !!!

Hi

The 610 is bigger and will do 28-30mph with a honda 90. or if you are v stupid and put an xr2 200hp racing engine on it, it will do 55-60mph. If you dont believe me type in shetland 610 speed test into you tube. Oh and yes that is my boat!

Thanks for the info Pete, going to look at the 570 on Friday afternoon, my head is buzzing with all the things to look out for but with the excitement I'll probably forget half of it...! I have moorings, insurance and winter storage all priced and if I get a good deal on the boat. I'm going for it....!

Was about to set off to drive the 100 odd miles to see the boat today, got a text from the owner to say it has just been sold...! Gutted....!
